Assassin's Creed 2 is a game about controlls, one control specifically: free running. And free running is great! You bowl people over, scale buildings with ease and jump from rooftop to rooftop without a second thought. Animations all chain smoothly, but I'm afraid the UX does not. The colored buttons with icons of a body part are cute, but as the only way to interact with the system, they are woefully insuffecient. I assume they had some sort of expert advise them that left-shift and space are the comfortable resting position sof the left hand while manning the comfortable wasd controlls. Unfortunately there is a big difference between resting and working. wasd isn't the default because those keys are natural, quite the opposite: it's because they make sense! When you have your hand on one, the others are right there. Additionally, the right click button (one of the two buttons which has an icon of a head) is totally useless. To walk around the game with only the w key, which is the common behavior I expect, is to be plunged into perpetual retard mode. The FTUE is just that: "retard mode". There is a hideous mixture of utterly non-discoverable controlls, and an utterly non-sensical combination of those keys to escape. After that it's a series of struggles to climb walls, races, courier missions and awkward fighting. Meh
